Extraordinary Ministers of Communion Coordinators

Coordinator: George Biagioni

email: ministers.communion@rgcp.org.au

Extraordinary Ministers of Communion serve the assembly by assisting the priest in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. This ministry also involves taking communion to those members of the parish community who unable to be physically present at the celebration of the Eucharist, such as the ill, housebound and those in nursing homes.

As an Extraordinary Minister of Communion, you need to:

    • Demonstrate great reverence for the Holy Eucharist.
    • Understand that your ministry is one of service and hospitality.
    • Display respect and care for others.
    • Foster your own devotion to the Eucharist.
    • Represent Christ and demonstrate the care, support and concern of the community when bringing Communion to the sick and housebound.

Extraordinary Ministers of Communion are required to undertake preparation consisting of liturgical and spiritual formation as well as practical training.

As with all liturgical ministries participation in on-going formation and training is necessary.
